Fighting  Poverty & Strengthening Communities

The AmeriCorps VISTA mission is to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty through volunteering and the mobilization of resources. Beginning in the fall of 2017, the Red River Community Corps - VISTA program will work to fulfill this mission by helping build the capacity of non-profit organizations to meet specific needs of economically disadvantaged communities throughout Oklahoma. VISTA members will serve at host sites performing activities such as recruiting and managing volunteers; creating volunteer recruitment tools; helping build the financial capacity of community organizations by seeking resources though grants and donations; and helping sites formalize existing programs and services; identifying new areas for growth, and developing strategies sites can implement for sustaining new and existing services.

Individuals

In 2017, Red River Community Corps - VISTA plans to place 30 VISTAs at non-profit agencies throughout the state. Members serving with the Oklahoma In Action program must have a passion for empowering individuals and a desire to serve their community.
